FOREST LIGHT IS THE NAME OF MARTA'S DEBUT ALBUM AND QUINTET.

BORN AT THE END OF 2017 AS A JAZZ QUINTET, THE BAND DEVELOPED A UNIQUE CHEMISTRY AND AN INDIVIDUAL SOUND, CONNECTING THE MUSICIANS’ IMAGERY AND INTENSIVE PLAYING.

THE ALBUM "FOREST LIGHT" WAS RELEASED ON OCT 4TH, 2019 ON THE LABEL CHALLENGE RECORDS INTERNATIONAL.

IN JUNE 2020 IT WAS INCLUDED AS A CONTESTANT IN ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS ITALIAN AWARD FOR ALBUMS AND SONGWRITERS, "PREMIO TENCO", IN THE CATEGORY "BEST FIRST WORK".

IN NOVEMBER 2020,  IT WAS NOMINATED TO THE EDISON JAZZ/WORLD AWARD 2020.

"MARTA ARPINI FOREST LIGHT" WAS ONE OF THE WINNERS OF KEEP AN EYE THE RECORDS 2020. THANKS TO THIS PRIZE THAT POWERS THE REALIZATION OF A NEW ALBUM, MARTA WILL BE ABLE TO START A NEW CHAPTER IN THE STORY OF HER BAND, WITH A NEW “WAVE” OF COMPOSITIONS, AN UPDATED REPERTOIRE THAT WILL REFLECT HER PERSONAL GROWTH PROCESS AND HER MOST RECENT INSPIRATIONS.

COLLECTED FROM LISTENING TO UNCONVENTIONAL SONGWRITERS AND MUSICIANS (ANDY SHAUF, ELLIOTT SMITH, ADRIANNE LENKER, DIRTY PROJECTORS, KALBELLS, RUFUS WAINWRIGHT, CHRIS WEISMAN, RYAN POWER) MARTA INTERMINGLE THEM WITH HER JAZZ UPBRINGING AND EDUCATION, AND HER FASCINATION ALSO FOR INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (BILL FRISELL, DUKE ELLINGTON, HANK ROBERTS, SKÚLI SVERRISSON, JON BRION, RENÉ AUBRY, BRAD MEHLDAU).

COMBINING THE DIFFERENT BRANCHES OF HER WRITING – THE ALTERNATIVE, BAROQUE POP AND INDIE FOLK ORIENTED SONGS AND THE JAZZ INFLUENCED PIECES - MARTA IS WORKING ON GIVING FOREST LIGHT A NEW GARMENT, RENOVATING THE REPERTOIRE WITH A LARGER BUT FLEXIBLE LINE-UP, NEW SOUNDS AND ORCHESTRATION.

THE ALBUM WILL BE ARTISTICALLY CO-PRODUCED WITH DRUMMER, COMPOSER AND PRODUCER MARK SCHILDERS.

IN DECEMBER 2020, MARTA WAS GRANTED A SUBSIDY BY FONDS PODIUMKUNSTEN (WERKBIJDRAGE MUZIEKAUTEUR) TO COMPOSE AND ARRANGE, WRITE LYRICS AND MUSIC FOR THIS NEW ALBUM, THAT WILL BE OUT IN JANUARY 2022, DISTRIBUTED BY DOX RECORDS.

"A sort of tenderness embraces me when I listen to Marta Arpini.

She doesn’t use the voice in an olympic way, like a lot, too many singers nowadays do, eventually resembling each other. She doesn’t; with her, it’s like she’s letting herself go to a spontaneous narration, a delicate and caressing stream, but always very much in tune. In fact I believe that not everyone could sing her songs. Her lyrics are delicate poems, with an intimate aura, never démodé. […] The musical genre is a very sophisticated and erudite cross-over. Explicit or in filigree, jazz is very present in each composition. The technical skills of each band member is simply admirable and functional to enhance Marta’s artistry."
